Notre Dame is the old French Catholic Cemetery. The Catholic population of Gardner is principally of three nationalities French (split between Acadian and Quebecois both attend L' Eglise de Notre Dame du St. Rosaire) Irish) who attend Sacred Heart Church) and Polish who came to town later and attend St Stanislas Church. The Irish cemetery is St. John's Cemetery, and the French is Notre Dame Cemetery. These started as two distinct areas but abutting. As time has passed the distinction has blurred as families merged the area has become one very large cemetery with two entrances a couple of hundred yards apart off the same road.
