ACADIAN DAY 2008

Acadian Day Celebrations for 2008 were celebrated many places throughout New Brunswick,Nova Scotia,Prince Edward Island, possibly Newfoundland, and Quebec, it was celebrated in parts of the USA ,especially in Louisiana .
Last year we went to the celebrations in Dieppe New Brunswick and it was well worth going, the year before that we had gone to Le Pays de La Sagouine in Bouctouche New Brunswick and that was worth going also, but this year I wanted to go celebrate with other Acadians, so we decided on going to the cradle of Acadie, Memramcook.
We got all our Acadian Decorations together, our hats, our flags, etc and at ten thirty AM we left for Memramcook. The weatherman was calling for rain, so we had our umbrellas just in case. But instead of the rain ,we got the sun, and it was a perfect day for the Acadian Celebrations.

Arriving at the Monument Lefebvre parking lot, we gathering our hats and flags and as we were getting ready to attend the festivities, a lady walked by and said " would you like me to take a photo of the both of you? ".Of course we could not refuse, so now we are all set, oh there is a lady dressed up. "Can we take your photo? " She said yes.

Thank you, I replied. Now it is lunch time first, hmmm will they have Poutine Rapees? Let's go inside first and then check the menu.

I did not see any poutines, so that was out of the question, they had chicken fricot that looked pretty good, but my mind was set on Rappee and they had Rapee Pie or Shiard so I took a piece of that, it was big enough to feed an army , ok then I will take some of it home with me. George decided on Fish Cakes.

Voila my Rappee or Shiard, it is made from grated potatoes and pork.

George's fish cakes looked more appetizing tho , as far as looks goes.

After our meal , we headed for the area where all the festivals were being held, in front of the Monument Lefebvre building. There were chairs set up below the stage ,and they had a Barbeque being held by the boy scouts, and there was an Acadian Gift booth, so I moseyed over to see what there was for sale. Mister Claude Boudreau was very helpful, can I take your photo? Sure he replied, let me hold a flag .

Next it was time for the masters of ceremonies to make an anouncement and welcome the speakers. The masters of ceremonies were Claude Boudreau and Lelianne LeBlanc, and they did a marvelous job. Hello and welcome to the Acadian National Holiday in Memramcook it gives me great pleasure to introduce my co master of ceremonies Claude Boudreau, director of the Monument Lefebvre, said Lelianne. Hello and Happy August 15th birthday, and It is a great pleasure to introduce my co master of ceremonies for the day Lelianne LeBlanc from the comity of the Cultural Society of Memramcook.

It gives me great pleasure to invite our Federal Deputy of Beausejour Mister Dominique LeBlanc to say a few words.

Thank you Mister Dominique LeBlanc said Lelianne now it is my turn to welcome the Provincial Deputy of Memramcook, Lakeville,Dieppe, Mister Bernard LeBlanc.

Thank you Mister LeBlanc said Claude, now the next speech goes to another LeBlanc ,Mister Donald LeBlanc the mayor of Memramcook. Now we would like note the presence of Constable Eric Savard of the Memramcook Mounties who will participate on the raising of the flag. While the flag is being raised please rise for the hymn Ave Mars Stella.

Now back to the celebrations.

Now it is time to listen to the music. First band up was Fun Trio.

One of the songs they played was an old favorite of mine called Diggy Diggy Li. When they finished playing it was break time ,in order for the next band to set up. so the masters of ceremonies announced that there was free cake in the Monument Lefebvre for the ones who wanted some

The cake was delicious, and now back to the music, next band was Reveil, and they were very entertaining, we had heard them before when we went to Abram Village on PEI for an Acadian Festival. This band sure had a lot of energy.

This band really involved the crowd, they announced that they did not want to play the music alone, so come on up and play. Well it was something to see, the children running up on stage, next the men and woman, the men were not as brave so the boys went up instead. Everyone who went up were given something to pay, mostly spoons and cymbals.

Then we had step dancers, one of the men (in the white shirt) in the band tap danced, and these girls dit their stepdance.

There was fun to be had by all, they had face painting and games for the children, put on by the Scouts, you saw the children with flags painted or the colors of the flag on their faces.

LET THE TINTAMARRE BEGIN

I would like to share the following with you, as you will see leading the tintamarre are a soon to be bride and groom. Octave LeBlanc and Julie decided to make a memorably day for their wedding. They included the tintamarre among their wedding celebration, they walked in the tintamarre as you can see as far as the church, and then into the church to be married at 7pm. "We're proud Acadians and we wanted to do something special," Octave said, adding how bits of nostalgia (like being wed close to where the original Acadian Congress was held) helped in making the special day even more so.(from the Moncton Time).

"It's all the little things that add to it," he said. "We like our history and heritage and find it cool that it's a part of our wedding day."

Thought I would finish this page with "THE END"
